Wolky pays tribute to Mario J. Molina, Mexican scientist and chemist, who passed away on October 7, 2020, in Mexico City. Born on March 19, 1943, Molina was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1995) for his groundbreaking research on the depletion of the ozone layer caused by chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). His work, conducted alongside Paul Crutzen and F. Sherwood Rowland, transformed global environmental policy and led to the Montreal Protocol, a landmark treaty that continues to protect the atmosphere today. Beyond his scientific achievements, Molina was a passionate advocate for climate awareness and environmental education. His legacy stands as a reminder that science and humanity must work hand in hand to protect our shared planet.
